A vape cart usually leaks because heat has thinned the oil, a change in air pressure has pushed it out, or it was stored on its side. Hard, long pulls can also flood the coil so oil escapes through the airflow holes. A crack or a loose seal causes the rest. Most leaks can be stopped. A cracked cart can’t be fixed.

Find the cause

What you see Likely cause Fix
Oil around the base or battery connection Stored on its side or upside down Wipe it clean and store it upright
Leaks after a hot car or a sunny window Heat thinned the oil Keep it at room temperature
Leaks after a flight or a mountain drive Air pressure change Let it settle upright; pack it upright in a sealed bag next time
Gurgling, oil in your mouth Coil flooded by hard pulls Take gentle 3-second draws
Oil seeping from the side of the glass Crack or failed seal Stop using it; it can’t be repaired
Leaks after screwing it on firmly Over-tightened, stressing the seal Screw it on until it just stops, no further

Clean up a leaking cart

  1. Remove the cart from the battery.
  2. Wipe the threads and the battery contact with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. Let them dry fully.
  3. Clear the mouthpiece with a dry swab or a folded paper towel.
  4. Stand it upright for 10 minutes before using it again.
  5. Reattach gently and take a few short, soft draws.

Oil on the battery contacts can stop the battery from firing, so it’s worth cleaning even if the leak is small.

Prevent leaks

  • Store carts upright, ideally in a stand or the original box.
  • Keep them away from heat, direct sun and freezing cold.
  • Draw gently, and don’t block the airflow holes with your fingers.
  • Don’t over-tighten on the battery.
From our shelves Our 1 g Vape Carts include full-ceramic Tegridy Extracts cartridges. If you’d rather skip carts and batteries altogether, our disposables are sealed devices.

Common questions

Why is my vape leaking from the bottom?

Usually storage on its side, heat or a pressure change. Clean the base and battery contact, then store it upright.

Is it safe to use a leaking cart?

If it’s only seeping from storage or heat, clean it and carry on. If the glass or housing is cracked, stop using it.

Can heat make a cart leak?

Yes. Warm oil is thinner and slips past the seals more easily.

Why does oil get in my mouth?

Hard pulls flood the coil. Take gentler, shorter draws and give the coil a few seconds between puffs.
