Disposable vape vs cartridge comes down to convenience against cost. A disposable is an all-in-one device you use until it’s empty. A cartridge screws onto a reusable 510 battery, so after the first battery you only pay for oil. Per gram, carts usually cost less.

What the numbers say

A 2024 study of Ontario Cannabis Store listings found disposables averaged about $51.90 per gram, against about $37.70 per gram for 510 cartridges. The gap pays for the battery and hardware built into each disposable. Prices vary by store and brand, but the pattern is the same: carts cost less per gram over time.

Which to choose

  • You vape most days: a 510 battery and carts.
  • You want to try vaping first: a disposable.
  • You like switching between strains: carts. Some disposables also have two chambers with a strain in each.
  • You want adjustable heat: a variable-voltage 510 battery.
  • You travel or want a backup: a disposable, since there’s nothing to forget.

Disposing of either

Both contain electronics. Don’t put a disposable, or a used battery, in the garbage or household recycling. Take it to a battery or electronics drop-off point.

From our shelves Our Disposable Vapes are rechargeable Tegridy Extracts devices: 2 g single-strain, and 4 g dual-chamber with 2 g in each chamber. Our Vape Carts are 1 g 510-thread cartridges, which need a 510 battery.

Common questions

Are disposables stronger than carts?

Not by design. Strength depends on the oil inside, so compare the THC percentage on each label.

Can you refill a disposable?

No. They’re sealed, and opening one can damage the coil or battery.

Does a cart fit any battery?

Any 510-thread battery, which is the standard for most carts. Pod systems and some branded devices use their own fittings.

Which lasts longer?

Per device, it depends on oil volume. Over months, a reusable battery with carts lasts longest.
