A disposable vape works like a cartridge and battery sealed into one device. When you inhale, an airflow sensor turns on the battery, which heats a coil touching the oil. The oil becomes vapour, and you draw it through the mouthpiece. There’s nothing to fill, screw on or set up.
In short: a battery, a sensor, a heating coil and an oil tank, all in one sealed body. You use it until the oil runs out.
What’s inside
| Battery | A small lithium-ion cell. In most cannabis disposables, it recharges through a USB-C port. |
|---|---|
| Airflow sensor | Detects your draw and switches the heat on. Some models also have a button. |
| Coil | Usually set in ceramic, which soaks up the oil and heats it evenly. |
| Oil tank | Holds the cannabis oil, most often 1–2 g per tank. |
| Mouthpiece | Where the vapour comes out. Air holes nearby let air flow in. |
| Indicator light | Shows when the battery is heating, low or charging. |
What happens on each puff
- You inhale, and air moves past the sensor.
- The sensor tells the battery to send power to the coil.
- The coil heats the oil soaked into the ceramic around it.
- The oil turns to vapour and mixes with incoming air.
- You stop inhaling, and the coil switches off.
Dual-chamber disposables
Some disposables hold two separate tanks, each with its own strain. A switch or dial lets you use one chamber or the other, and on some models both together. It’s two strains in one device.
Making one last
- Recharge when the light flashes, rather than letting the battery die every time.
- Store it upright at room temperature. Cold makes oil thick and slow to draw.
- Take steady, gentle draws. Hard pulls can flood the coil.

Common questions
What is a disposable vape?
A pre-filled, ready-to-use vape with the battery built in. You don’t refill it; you use it until the oil is gone.
How do I know when a disposable is empty?
Look through the tank window if it has one. If the hits go thin or taste burnt while the battery is charged, it’s likely out of oil.
Can you recharge a disposable vape?
Most cannabis disposables, yes: look for a USB-C port on the bottom. Charge it until the light changes or turns off.
How do I dispose of a used one?
Don’t put it in the garbage or household recycling, because of the lithium battery. Take it to a battery or electronics drop-off point.
