Nano THC is THC broken into very small droplets and coated so it mixes with water. It’s used in drinks and “fast-acting” edibles. Because the droplets are tiny, makers say the body absorbs them faster, so effects may start in 15 to 30 minutes instead of up to 2 hours. Research on these products is still limited, so it’s safest to treat them like any edible.

In short:

  • THC in tiny emulsified droplets, also called water-soluble or nanoemulsified THC.
  • Used in cannabis drinks, drink mixes and some gummies.
  • Often marketed as faster-acting; the evidence is still early.

Nano THC vs regular edibles

Regular edible Nano or water-soluble THC
How THC is carried Dissolved in fat or oil Tiny droplets coated to mix with water
Typical products Gummies, chocolates, baked goods Drinks, drink mixes, “fast-acting” gummies
Onset 30 minutes to 2 hours (Health Canada) Often marketed as 15–30 minutes
Research Well established Early and limited

How it’s made

Makers mix THC oil with an emulsifier and break it into droplets using high-energy methods such as ultrasound. The coating keeps the droplets suspended in water instead of floating to the top, so a drink stays evenly dosed.

Using it safely

  • Start low: Health Canada suggests 2.5 mg of THC or less.
  • Still wait: even if it starts faster, give it at least an hour, and longer, before taking more.
  • Watch the total: drinks go down quickly. Measure, don’t free-pour.
  • Don’t mix with alcohol.
From our shelves Our Edibles are classic gummies at 100 mg per piece, and our Tinctures mix into drinks with a measured dose.

Common questions

Does nano THC work faster?

Makers say so, and early studies are promising, but there’s limited independent research. Plan as you would for any edible.

Is nano THC stronger?

Not per milligram as far as is known. It may start sooner and fade sooner, but a 10 mg dose is still 10 mg.

Is water-soluble THC the same as nano THC?

Mostly, yes. Both describe THC emulsified to mix with water.

How long does nano THC last?

It’s often reported to fade sooner than regular edibles, but effects vary by person and product.
