THC syrup is a sweet, thick liquid infused with THC, usually measured by the millilitre and mixed into drinks. It works like an edible: you swallow it, so it can take 30 minutes to 2 hours to begin and up to 4 hours to reach full effect. The key to using it is reading the mg per ml and measuring carefully.

In short:

  • A drinkable THC product, often fruit-flavoured.
  • Dosed by mg of THC per ml: measure with a syringe or a marked cup, not a pour.
  • Acts like an edible: slow to start, long-lasting.

How to use THC syrup

  1. Check the label for total THC and bottle size, and work out mg per ml.
  2. Measure a small amount with a dosing syringe. Health Canada suggests starting with 2.5 mg of THC or less.
  3. Mix it into a non-alcoholic drink: soda, juice or iced tea. Stir well.
  4. Sip it and wait. Give it at least 2 hours before having more.

Dose examples

Syrup strength 2.5 mg is about 10 mg is about
5 mg per ml 0.5 ml 2 ml
10 mg per ml 0.25 ml 1 ml
33 mg per ml (1,000 mg in 30 ml) 0.08 ml 0.3 ml

A teaspoon is about 5 ml, so a spoonful of a strong syrup can be far more than you meant to take. Use a syringe.

Don’t mix it with alcohol or other drugs

THC syrup is sometimes linked to “lean” culture, but mixing it with alcohol or medications such as cough syrup increases impairment and risk. Keep it to non-alcoholic drinks.

Storing it

Keep the bottle sealed, labelled and out of reach of children and pets. It looks like a regular syrup or juice, which makes accidental drinking a real risk.

Common questions

How long does THC syrup take to kick in?

Like any edible: 30 minutes to 2 hours, with full effects at up to 4 hours.

How long does it last?

Eaten or drunk THC can last up to 12 hours, according to Health Canada.

Is THC syrup stronger than edibles?

Not by itself. It depends on how many mg you take. Syrup just makes it easier to take too much by accident.

Can you put THC syrup in hot drinks?

Yes, in tea or hot chocolate. Don’t boil it.
