Live resin carts are vape cartridges filled with live resin, an extract made from cannabis frozen right after harvest. Freezing keeps more of the plant’s terpenes, so live resin carts tend to taste closer to the fresh strain than standard distillate carts.
In short:
- Live resin carts are filled with full-spectrum extract from fresh-frozen plants.
- Distillate carts are filled with refined THC oil, with terpenes added for flavour.
- Most carts, live resin included, use the standard 510 thread and fit any 510 battery.
What’s in the cartridge
A live resin cart holds the extract much as it came out of the plant: cannabinoids, terpenes and other minor compounds together. That’s what “full spectrum” means. Some carts blend live resin with liquid diamonds, which is THCA melted back into oil, to raise potency while keeping the flavour.
Live resin vs distillate carts
| Live resin cart | Distillate cart | |
|---|---|---|
| Oil | Full-spectrum extract from fresh-frozen plants | Refined THC, terpenes added |
| Flavour | Strain-specific, often complex | Depends on the terpenes added |
| Potency | High; depends on the product | Often higher on paper |
| Thickness | Varies by batch | Very consistent |
| Price | Usually higher | Usually lower |
Getting the most from one
- Use a lower voltage. Around 2.5–3.3 V keeps terpenes from scorching. High settings taste burnt sooner.
- Store it upright and at room temperature, so the oil stays on the coil side.
- Take slow, steady draws rather than short, hard pulls.

Common questions
Are live resin carts better than distillate?
They’re different. Live resin tastes more like the strain; distillate is more uniform and often cheaper. Pick by what you value more.
What gets you higher, live resin or distillate?
Compare the THC percentage on the labels. Distillate often lists a higher number, but many people find full-spectrum extracts feel different. Experiences vary.
Why is my live resin cart dark?
Live resin is naturally amber to gold, and colour varies by strain and batch. Oil also darkens slowly with age, heat and light.
Which burns faster, live resin or distillate?
Thinner oil can vaporize slightly faster at the same voltage, but how hard and long you draw makes a much bigger difference.
